Staying Safe Online

Before you ever meet someone in person, protect yourself in your digital interactions.

Protect Your Identity

  • Don't share your full last name early on
  • Keep your home address private
  • Don't share your workplace details upfront
  • Use hey30plus's in-app chat — not personal numbers
  • Be cautious sharing social media accounts

Verify They Are Real

  • Look for the verified profile badge
  • Suggest a quick video call before meeting
  • Reverse-image-search their photos
  • Be suspicious of inconsistent stories
  • Check if their profile is very new or sparse

Never Send Money

  • Never send money to someone you haven't met
  • Ignore requests for gift cards or crypto
  • Decline "investment opportunities" from matches
  • Don't share bank or card details
  • Report anyone who asks for money immediately

Secure Your Account

  • Use a strong, unique password
  • Enable two-factor authentication
  • Never share your login credentials
  • Log out on shared devices
  • Report any suspicious account activity

Common Red Flags

Trust your gut. If something feels off, it probably is. Here are warning signs to watch for.

If you notice any of these, proceed with extreme caution:

  • Refuses or always has excuses to video call
  • Professes love or deep connection very quickly
  • Profile photos look too professional or model-like
  • Claims to be overseas (military, oil rig, doctor abroad)
  • Asks for money, gift cards, or crypto
  • Avoids specific personal questions
  • Story changes or contains inconsistencies
  • Tries to move conversation off hey30plus immediately
  • Pressures you to act quickly or urgently
  • Sends links and asks you to click them
  • Gets angry or guilt-trips when you say no
  • Has very few photos or only one photo

Meeting in Person Safely

When you're ready to take things offline, a little preparation goes a long way.

1

Do a video call first

Before meeting in person, have at least one video call. It confirms they are who they say they are and helps you feel more comfortable before meeting face to face.

2

Choose a public place

Always meet in a busy, well-lit public location — a coffee shop, restaurant, or shopping centre. Avoid private locations (like someone's home) for first meetings.

3

Tell someone your plans

Tell a friend or family member where you're going, who you're meeting, and what time you expect to be back. Share the person's profile link with them if possible.

4

Arrange your own transport

Drive yourself, take public transport, or use a rideshare app. Don't rely on your date for a ride — having your own way home gives you full control over when you leave.

5

Keep your phone charged and accessible

Bring a fully charged phone. Let a friend know to check in on you during the date. Have a plan if you need to leave early — it's completely okay to do so.

6

Watch your drinks

Never leave your drink unattended. If you feel unexpectedly dizzy or unwell, seek help from staff or call a trusted person immediately.

7

Trust your instincts

If at any point something feels wrong, leave. You don't owe anyone an explanation. Your safety is the only thing that matters. Report the experience to us so we can protect others.
